…or what to expect from careers of Polish scholars
Thanks to the study conducted, we know how the scientific career of doctorate holders in Poland looks like. We sent the survey to about six thousand people in the database “Nauka Polska” (Polish Science), and received back about five hundred questionnaires. We analyzed them using SPSS statistical tools. We performed an additional analysis of the habilitation process (post-doctoral degree) in Poland and globally, as well as of quantitative data on the number of publications of holders of this post-doc degree in the period between their doctorate and habilitation. Results of the study were presented at the STHESCA (Science, Technology, Higher Education and Society in the Conceptual Age) conference. They were delivered also to Eurostat in the form of statistical compilations.
International project CDH (Careers of Doctorate Holders) is jointly run by the OECD, Eurostat and UNESCO (UNESCO Institute for Statistics, UIS). It is implemented by all member states of the European Union and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). The survey is to be carried out periodically, and since 2008 it is included in the program of official statistical surveys adopted by the Council of Ministers.
