The monograph “Naukowiec w relacjach z biznesem. Uwarunkowania transferu wiedzy w Polsce” [“A scientist in relations with business. Conditions of knowledge transfer in Poland” – available in Polish only] describes transfer of knowledge between the academia and the business sector as well as the factors determining the particular aspects of cooperation of researchers with enterprises.
The subject of the publication fits well into the current debate on the role of Polish scientific institutions in the development of innovativeness in our country. The findings of the publications are built upon advanced statistical models that made it possible to gather information on:
- intensity of cooperation between the researchers and the entrepreneurs;
- characteristics of those representatives of the academia who enter into cooperation with enterprises of all sizes;
- factors that increase the tendency of scientists to use modern mechanisms of knowledge transfer.
With the material gathered it was possible to identify barriers to knowledge transfer in Poland, and to create a list of directions for conducting research which eventually will translate into the economic growth. Finally, the paper presents the challenges faced by science&innovation policy makers.
The monograph may inspire a discussion on the postulated changes as it concerns management methods used in research units and in development of individual scientific careers. It was created to meet the needs of public administration authorities and scientific institutions but the scientists may also find it interesting . Besides, it may be a valuable source of information for theorists and practitioners of business as well as students of economics.
The publication is the result of the team work of the Laboratory of Statistical Analysis and Evaluation.
