Virtual reality – methodology research and eye tracking in VR

Virtual reality – development of tools (for R and/or Python environments), theoretical indicators, methodology research, analysis and visualization of eye tracking and positional data collected during VR experiences

The project aims to build and improve analytical tools for eye tracking and positional data collected during VR experiences. It is implemented in strict cooperation with the Laboratory of Virtual Reality and Psychophysiology Lab of the Institute of Psychology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Scientific research on human-technology interaction in the VR environment requires solving many technical and methodological problems specific to the fields, which have not yet developed routine heuristics and tools. During the implementation of the task, the developed methods are used as part of empirical research.

Controlled experiments are conducted regarding Cinematic Virtual Reality (CVR) with respect to the illusion of spatial presence and visual attention. There is a growing number of professional and amateur 360 degree movies that you can watch using head mounted displays. Thanks to the use of a special camera and editing a cinematic surrounds the viewer from all sides. This creates new challenges for creators who need to narrate in a different way to keep the viewer’s attention in the right place of the scene. Visual attention convergence index (VRC) has been developed to measure inter- and intra-subject dependence in visual data. We hope the new method of testing cinematic VR will contribute to the creation of the language of a new medium.
