Our goal was to verify what factors affect the assessment of usability of an information system.
We reached our conclusions on the basis of analysis of data from the survey on the evaluation of the information system on higher education POL-on. The survey was part of a much broader project aimed at a comprehensive assessment of said system. It included tests using the eye- tracking method, in-depth interviews and expert opinions.
We wanted to answer the question of how initial expectations, attitudes and emotions determine the satisfaction and efficiency of use of the information system. The study found that the evaluation (rating) given often reflects the original expectations. We have also described the essence of relationship between the user satisfaction assessment and the individual – both cognitive and emotional – dimensions of respondents’ attitudes.
The results may be useful for developers of information systems – as they emphasize the role of expectations of the future users and their needs, and the importance of building a positive image of the new tool (as useful, bringing positive values, increasing the operations efficiency) at a very early stage of work.
