On October 30, 2018 we signed a contract for the implementation of the PolFEL project – Polish Free Electron Laser.

The project is about investing in strategic research infrastructure, i.e. building of the PolFEL free electron laser. The infrastructure will consist of the free electron laser (FEL), photocathode testing laboratory, research lines and laboratories essential for the equipment functioning as well as a laboratory for the research line users. The project is being carried out by a consortium of eight entities: research centres and universities led by the National Centre for Nuclear Research. The PolFEL infrastructure will have a centralized operational structure based in the National Centre for Nuclear Research in Otwock.

The PolFEL laser will be the first source of coherent electromagnetic radiation in Poland – and one of the first in the world – with the wavelength tunable in several ranges from THz to VUV, emitting impulses ranging from femtoseconds to picoseconds with high impulse power (gigawatt range) or high average power (tens of watts range).

Overall project cost: PLN 164 766 386.40

Eligible costs: PLN 149 884 876.40

Grant: PLN 118 652 674.40
