“Inventorum” – a new place for cooperation between business and science

This platform, gathering and processing information on innovative companies, their intellectual capital, markets for innovative products, experts and reviewers, as well as conferences, will support cooperation between the economy and the world of science. The National Information Processing Institute and the National Research and Development Centre have signed an agreement concerning the implementation of a Poland-wide information platform.

Science and the economy need modern tools for establishing effective business relationships. Hence the idea to provide such a solution in the form of an IT platform gathering and processing the biggest possible amount of the available data to assist both parties in making business decisions. So created knowledge base will comprise information about research projects results and conditions on which entrepreneurs can access such results. The scientific community will gain a permanent and secure access to digital information resources.

Studies have shown that planning research without considering market needs makes it difficult to get business spheres interested in the achieved results. The “Inventorum” platform will collect, process and supply to scientists information about entrepreneurs’ needs, related to cooperation with the world of science in solving specific problems. The platform will help scientists understand the processes in the innovative economy and plan further research.

The “Inventorum” will consist of several elements allowing to unambiguously find and filter information. Elements of “Inventorum” platform:

  • Innovative companies (information platform) – to smartly gather data on innovative enterprises and forecast the needs of cooperation with R&D;
  • Intellectual capital of companies (information platform) – to assess the intellectual capital of companies;
  • Experts and reviewers (information platform) – to provide information on experts/reviewers for industry and science;
  • Conferences (information platform) – to indicate conferences, meeting places for innovative companies, scientists and R&D sector;
  • Markets for innovative products (information platform) – to inform about markets for innovative products produced with the participation of science, accounting for the existing constraints related to the protection of intellectual property;
  • Analytical applications based on data warehouses and proprietary solutions – distributed and parallel data processing, information extraction and machine learning methods will allow for detecting trends and networks as well as for profiling research teams and innovative companies.

The “Inventorum” platform was created at the end of 2015. The “Inventorum National Information Platform for Innovative Potential” project is carried out in consortium with Kozminski University. Under the agreement signed on March 4th with the National Centre for Research and Development, it received financial support from the European Union under the Innovative Economy Programme 2007-2013: priority 2 “R&D Infrastructure”, measure 2.3 “Investments related to the development of IT infrastructure for science”, sub-measure 2.3.2 “Projects for the development of science information resources in digital form”.
