We conducted a multivariate analysis of the volume of funds allocated from the state budget for statutory activities of higher education institutions in Poland in the years 2007-2010.
The analysis covered:
- Identification of trends in allocation of funds from the state budget for statutory activities of higher education institutions just before the introduction of the new reform of financing of the Polish science;
- Indication of universities that will receive the largest allocations for statutory activities;
- Verification of existence of a correlation between the general trend in financing and financing of certain types of educational institutions;
- Study on effectiveness of university application for statutory grants;
- Indication of the types of institutions that were the most effective in applying for grants for statutory activities.
The data were obtained from the OSF system, and were visualized and analyzed using the Gapminder tool.
The results of the project are covered by the article by Marta Osęka and Agnieszka Szóstek titled “How to discover diversity in statistical data? Analysis of data on Polish science using interactive visualization techniques”, available in the post-conference monographKnowledge visualisation. From Biblia Pauperum to hypertext, published jointly by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, National Museum in Warsaw and Jagiellonian University Museum (pages 327-337).
